The substrate refers to the backing material your sign plate is made from.
There are many factors which will determine the best substrate, ranging from cost issues through to durability, strength & weight.
Generally, permanent traffic signs are made from aluminium or HP200 steel, though some are now choosing MPGRP due to the current escalating trend in sign theft (GRP has no scrap value).
Temporary traffic signs can be manufactured from Aluminium, HP200 steel, MPGRP or Zintec.
Safety signs would mostly be PVC or aluminium, and commercial signs can be made from any of the above materials.
